How do I search for a patient?

Using SHIIP’s Quick Search

The easiest way to find a patient is to use the Quick Search feature located in the top-right corner of any SHIIP page. You can enter the following as search criteria:

  • Partial health card number, first name, or last name: this will search through your organization’s Practice List.
  • Full health card number or patient ID: this will search through all of the patients in SHIIP
  • Exact first name, last name, and date of birth: this will search through all of the patients in SHIIP

An example of each of the above criteria is below:

Using SHIIP’s Advanced Search

SHIIP’s Advanced Search page offers the same functionality as above in addition to allowing you to filter your organization’s Practice List. A variety of filters are available and defined on this page.

To add a filter, ensure you have selected a valid Patient Population. To use advanced search filters, you must select either your organization’s practice list, a specific patient list, or all patient lists. Once a valid option is selected, you will notice an ‘Additional Filters’ section. If you focus on the additional filter dropdown, you’ll see a variety of options available. You can narrow these down by typing in a search term, i.e. ‘complex’.

Once you have filters selected and filter values chosen, you can click the ‘Search’ button. Results returned should match all of the filters you’ve added. If you would like to save your search to use later, you can do so by clicking the ‘Save Search’ button.
